Girder arrangement

The Girder arrangement dialog box is used to define the layout of the girders. Beam numbering is based on looking down station, and Beam 1 being referenced as the left-most girder with all other beams following sequentially in each span. The Distance from previous beam at start or end of each span is measured along the deck width. Checks will be made in case of skew piers so that each girder is situated onto the pier cap length.

SettingDescription
Arrangement Type Types of girder arrangement: Regular, Parallel and Arbitrary.
SettingDescription
Regular For this option no field is editable, you just have a preview of the girders layout which have the same girder spacing and equal left/right overhangs.
Parallel Selecting this option will enable (highlighted in black) several fields from the list bellow like: Girder Id, Spacing_B, V.Offset_B,  Align.reference. In this way you will be able to have parallel girder arrangements with different girder spacing /different girder Id’s or vertical offsets that will result in different haunch depths.
Arbitrary Selecting this last option will enable additional fields (Spacing_E, V.Offset_E) that will allow flared girder arrangement and girder can be positioned in any desired way onto the pier cap, using both spacing values at begin and end of span.
Right overhang B Right overhang at beginning of span. Shown for information and the left overhang at begin of span is represented by the Spacing_B value of the first girder in the list.
Right overhang E Right overhang at span end. Shown for information and the left overhang at end of span is represented by the Spacing_B value of the first girder in the list.
Typical Values Information regarding defined values from typical girder parameters dialog, they cannot be edited from girder alignment dialog and relevant for Regular type only.
Middle Table
SettingDescription
Girder ID Select the primary member id to be used (only I-shape is allowed). By right clicking on the arrow, add/edit options will be available and send you to profiles definition menu where you can add new profiles or modify existing ones.
Girder type Sectional shape of the steel girders used.
Spacing_B The distance from the CL of selected Girder to the CL of the girder to its left at beginning of span. For the first girder, enter the distance from the left edge of the bridge to the centerline of the first girder.
Spacing_E The distance from the CL of selected Girder to the CL of the girder to its left at span end. For the first girder, enter the distance from the left edge of the bridge to the centerline of the first girder.
V.Offset_B Vertical distance at beginning of span between the reference point of the slab and the reference point on the girder, point that was selected in alignment reference field.
V.Offset_E Vertical distance at span end between the reference point of the slab and the reference point on the girder, point that was selected in alignment reference field.
H.Offset_B Horizontal distance from the CL of selected Girder to the CL of the Bridge at beginning of span.
H.Offset_E Horizontal distance from the CL of selected Girder to the CL of the Bridge at beginning of span.
Align.reference Typical points in cross-sections to be used for measuring distances between different parts or members; we have 3 options for selection and showed in a picture next to it: Top,, Center, Bottom. The drawing shows the plan view of the span on which you are positioned with the piers at begin and end of span in the darker gray color, the lighter gray represents the deck surface. The selected girder from the upper table is highlighted in blue.
